Exclamation trans swap?

Ok guys, I've got a 99 durango SLT 4x4 with the 5.2, and today the transmission decided it had had enough. It has the 44re trans in it, but I was thinking of swapping in a 46re. The problem is I've heard multiple different stories as to whether or not I can even do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A 46RE should work, just keep in mind that the 5.9 that the 46RE is normally behind is externally balanced (flexplate is weighted I believe) whereas the 5.2 isn't. Not sure if the 96 Dakota would have had a 44RE or a 44RH.

There was a guy on here that had a 44re behind a 5.9l so I don't see why a 46re couldn't be put behind a 5.2. In fact the rams with the 5.2 came with 46re/rh. I did put a 46re out of ram in my durango so you should be able to put one in yours from a ram with a 5.2l. Just make sure the tranny is from a 98-99 because in 2000 they switched from a governor pressure soleniod to a transducer and the signals are different an it goes into limp mode (this is experience talking). I just happened to have a good valve body laying around and swapped it in, then the 2000 trans worked.
