Default 2002 Durango 5.9 magnum or 5.7 hemi?

So basically a little background info on me. I'm 19 I'm on a budget and I want the best bang for the buck while getting something I can drive daily from school/work. I'm getting a 2002 Dodge Durango 4.7 4wd from a family friend for cheap it currently makes a knocking noise (haven't seen it don't know where it's coming from). But either way I want more power, I'm a huge driver I love being able to out run people. I currently have a 85 ram with a 94' 5.9 magnum and I know gas is horrid in it 8-10mpg. And I've heard tons about the hemi being easy and cheaper. I'd only want to spend 2-5k on the complete build. And I'd want to do it myself (except maybe wiring). So I'd like to know what year hemi I'd want/need and what ever else I'd need for the swap. And the pros/cons vs the 5.9 magnum.

Use the 2-5k to buy a car.

The 4.7 wiring is closer to the Hemi than the 5.9 will be, but it's still going to be a ton of custom work and probably will go over that budget.
