98 Durango SLT 5.2 4x4 tow package. My brake lights don't work. My Husband pulled out Brake light switch and the harness that the switch plugs into has 2 wires that are "melted" together(6 wire harness). Purchased new switch but where do we get the new connector area. we went to our local auto wreckers and the plug was different. They only had 99 and up. We are trying another cities parts yard tomorrow since they have three 98 4x4 Durangos there. My hubby thought he can cut the harness off and splice the new connector on?? I'm trying to find a back up solution if we cant find the correct connector at the yard tomorrow. HELP Plz Thank you so much
I found the brake lamp switch connector in the 99 FSM and it appears to match that connector you have. I can't find the connector in the 98 FSM though.
Here's the 99 diagram. It does appear to match your wires.

That's serious overheating (high current). Those wires on pins 1 and 2 are definitely not original. What do they go to?
Also, it's possible those 2 pins are miswired. It looks like the diagram for that connector in the ram manual for that year is reversed, at least for the '98. The wire colors are just the opposite, from what I can see.

Thank you for the help. Very much appreciated!! We were able to find the replacement piece at the wrecking yard. If anyone else has this issue. We looked at about 10 different Durangos in 2 cities and finally found a pick n pull that had 3 1998 4x4 Durangos. 99 and up the switch is different. Keep in mind the local auto part store had the correct switch for approx $10 which we bought. It was the plastic melted connector female piece that we needed from yard. When my hubby cut it out further along the wiring there was a manufacture sticker reading 56021199AC. If you try that number the entire wiring system chart comes up for a 98 Durango. end result.. He spliced the new one on, connected the switch and BAM! we have working brake light once again. Thank you again

fýi the pin 1 is hot wire and pin2 is the brake light output which is hot as well, jumped the 2 together when a fault or no brake lights occur
