Default Connector hanging loose

Hi everyone, I have a 2000 Durango 2wd with the 5.2 V8. It has a plug hanging loose by the transmission that I need to fix to get through smog.

There are two pairs of wires that come down from above the transmission on the passenger side, slightly behind mid-point of the tranny. One pair goes to a plug on the lower rear of the transmission. That's fine.

The other pair ends in a wire connector, but it has both halves of the connector, male and female, hanging from it. It seems that the wires on the other side of the connector have broken off, but I can't find a loose wire anywhere, and don't know what it is. There are no codes, and the engine and tranny are working fine. The smog shop guy says he has no idea what it is either, but it can't pass smog with any sort n of sensor disconnected.

Any help, please?

Richard

If there is no CEL, then its highly unlikely it is from any emissions related component. It should not affect inspections if there are no codes. Tie the wire up out of sight and try another inspection place.

That will be my second option :-) However, I have a free retest at the first place, so if I can just find the $#!&@ wire I can fix it and save the $$$'s
