Default Pushrod length confusion

Looking for some help with a bunch of valve train noise. I rebuilt the 5.2 in my 1998. This was my first engine rebuild (take this into consideration). The first week running my motor it was pretty quiet. Second week I started hearing some valvetrain tapping. (Both sides). Third week the motor sounds like a diesel. I threw in some Lucas Oil stabilizer which quiets things down until the motor gets hot.

I think I installed the wrong length pushrods or something. I put on some EQ Heads and the Hughes 9703 Cam. Everything else including the rockers are stock. I used some trick flow 7.000 pushrods. 7.000 was the measurement I came out with using a checker tool.

Contacted Hughes and they said I should be using stock length pushrods. Stocks are shorter than 7.000, right? Wouldn't the valvetrain noise be even louder with shorter rods.

Does anyone have any advice? Maybe I checked my length wrong. I couldn't find much on checking for pushrod length using the stock pedestal rockers. Also the book I was referencing during my rebuild said to simply torque the rocker bolt down to 21 ft lbs. Thats it. Is that correct.

Recheck the torque also if they say use factory rods try it. The cam you are using lifts more than factory, so therefore a shorter push is needed. If they say factory works and the factory ones won't I would contact them again but try them first.

Also with the 110LSA on that cam and the high lift I would get some one to tune it.
