Default 2001 Durango CTM Replacement Questions

After experiencing some strange issues after installing a new battery in my 2001 Durango last month (such as the alarm going off with an unlock command, service ding bell going off constantly with no dash indications, security light staying lit constantly, and finally, the transmission dial lights going out and no longer functioning) I determined I have an electrical issue, most likely a bad TCCM or CTM in ther somewhere.

I swapped in another working TCCM over the weekend which solved the problem for about a day, everything back to normal (4wd dial light, transmission switch working reliably) EXCEPT the service DING never stopped which seemed to indicate I still have a bad CTM. Today, after driving it to work with the 4wd working great, I started the car to drive it home, and the service 4wd and security lights are BACK on (oddly, when they are on, the constant dings STOP!). So I have now seen the same intermittent problem with two different TCCMs in there, thinking I have to look at the CTM next.

So...I'm going to order one, but I understand these need flashed? First question - In order to Flash this, do I need both the old and new module side by side to clone it or something else? Ideally, I will get the replacement CTM pre-flashed so I can do the swap job in one day. Second, anyone in my Harrisburg / Central Pennsylvania area happen to have a machine to flash a CTM?

Thanks for any advice!

B.

It works fine with just a swap. You only need the flash to get your key fobs to work. Dealer did it for me for 30 mins labor. I drove to the dealer with the new CTM in, but had the old one with me just in case. No need in my case. There are some CTMs that have a chip plugged into them that needs to be moved to the new CTM, but other model CTMs are not that way. Mine needed no chip work.

Thanks a ton for taking the time to respond. My replacement CTM is on the way. I'll check with my usual mechanic first on the reflash but if this is more a Dodge dealer only type of service, will go there as a backup plan with the CTM still exposed.

Boy, that was sure a lot easier than getting to the TCCM. I wish I'd tried this part first! Now I have a spare TCCM I guess.

I did what you did too, lights looked like the TCCM was bad, bought one, PITA install, no change. I got the TCCM on eBay too and seller was willing to give me a refund, just cost return shipping.

Don, thanks again. Changed out the CTM with a matching part from eBay and just like you said, fixed the problem right up.

Called my local dealer and they will reprogram my fobs for $57. Seems excessive but it is what it is. Could only take the job so far! I imagine I could make a mint if I bought a machine that can do the programming and charged local Dodge owners half for the service.

Guess it's off to the dealer for me. Still cheaper than taking it in to have this service I suppose. And everything looks to be back in full working order. Just still wishing I tried the CTM before that dreaded TCCM reinstall!
