Transfer case driveline question

I have a '99 Durango 4X and wondered why there is a double U-joint (I've heard it called double CV joint) connected to the output of the transfer case. There is of course another U-joint on the front differential. Isn't the two U-joint design prone to early failure due to instability?
I have a bad squeak under the D and I think that's where the squeak is coming from. Please help me with some background or upgrade knowledge. Much appreciated!!

Don't know why it is the double joint. But the squeaking could definitely be a U joint. My U joint at the rear differential was going out and started as an occasional light squeak in reverse and ended up being a full time squeak. Never any vibration. Got under the truck, the U joint was in horrible shape. Don't know how I didn't completely lost the U joint and drive shaft on the side of the highway. And all it was was a squeak
