My truck is running pretty ragged lately.. Auto Zone said #5 & #6 plugs r mis-firing.. Planning on changing those out today.. However, I was told yesterday that I Do Not have plug wires or a wireset.. Could somebody offer up a lil help for a gal before I get out there and tear this thang apart.. Oh while I'm at it, should I go ahead and change out all the plugs at the same time.. Thanks

 

The 4.7 is 'coil near plug'. What that means for you is, there are individual coils for each cylinder, so, no need for plug wires, distributor cap, or any of the usual stuff. Pop the hood, and have a gander, all we become clear.

Change ALL the plugs. If two of them are going bad, you can bet the rest aren't too far behind. They all live in the exact same environment after all. Be sure that you gap them as well.

 

Yes I believe 4.7s are coil over plug. So instead of having one coil that feeds a distributor, that spins and sends spark to each cylinder as the engine turns over... it’s all electronic. You’ll have 8 coils, 1 per cylinder that fire when the ECM tells them to. So if plugs don’t fix your misfire, then more than likely it’s coil packs on those 2 cylinders
