New Shoes for the Durango
Got a set of General Grabber AT2s (265/65R17) on a set of refinished R/T wheels. These tires come out to almost identical dimensions as the 31x10.5R15 tires that were on it. The finish on the stock wheels was starting to look pretty dingy after nearly 20 years. It was going to cost about the same to get my wheels refurbed or to get a set of refurbed 15" wheels as the 17" ones cost. They'll clear the 03 front brakes I want at some point too.
I only had about 30k miles on the Firestones (Destination A/Ts), but they have had noticeably less traction on wet roads. A couple of them were also starting to loose small chunks on the outside edges of the tread. The datecodes on them had them as being made about halfway through 2013, so not quite 5 years old. I do have to say I'm not exactly happy with how the Firestones held up with age.
These do have a bit more void between treads than I thought they would, so I bet they'll be noisy on the road, hopefully not too bad though. I was going to get terra grappler g2s, but I know a couple guys at work that said the g2s feel loose on wet roads.
