Default Oil pressure gage

So today I started having an issue... 2001 4.7 V8 217,000 miles on the truck, but the engine was replaced with a new one at 203,000. When the engine is idling the oil pressure gage drops down to the red and the "check gages" light comes on, if I just barely tap the gas it jumps back up to normal. It doesn't sound like there's no oil pressure (I'd expect to hear a lot of bad sounds, including valve lifter noise) and I checked and made sure it had oil, it was a little low, but still above the 'ADD' line, but it is still did this after I added enough to put it at full. I know I need to change the oil, last change was at about 214,000 miles, but I have a hard time believing this could cause low oil pressure problems... I'm wondering if the sending unit could be going bad. I looked on here and have seen things about the pickup tube being clogged, but since the engine was replaced recently, I don't think with 14,000 miles and regular oil changes this would be an issue.

Only way to know for sure is to put a mechanical gauge on it to verify if its the pump or sender.

Well, some frustration later, and a simple job becomes a two evening ordeal... But I discovered What the problem was, and why the oil level wasn’t closer to full. When I reached up to unplug the connection on the sensor everything was drenched in oil, and sadly the new sensor was a size smaller, so I put one size small of a socket on the old one and the plastic housing of the sensor broke off in the socket, it has been cracked and leaking. I have to borrow the right size for the old sensor from my dad and finish this tomorrow. I decided that since the engine is still under warranty from the re manufacturer if there is something else wrong I’m taking it back to the shop.
