Default DREADED ABS problem

Hi all,

I have the dreaded ABS problem. got the brake abs combo.

Pulled the code and I have a code 72.

I replaced the sensor on the pumpkin, still have the code.

Bought a used ABS module. Code 72.

WTF

my only guess is the new sensor is bad

Any other ideas?

did you change the output sensor on the transmission? those two sensors work together and affect each other.

also i dont have a list of ABS codes, what does code 72 refer to as the problem? i would start looking there rather than throw parts at it.

72 is for a ROM checksum error in the CAB.

I'm with you I don't like throwing parts at it. All the forums said it's either the rear sensor or the module. Looks like it's neither.

I'll get the output sensor. didn't know it existed.

I don't have any issues with speedometer or anything else.

Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

a checksum error in the CAB would point me to the CAB, something wrong with the internal (Read Only) chips, damaged, wet, shorted, ect. But if youv tried that already then i guess wiring is the next step, but something directly related to the function of the CAB

ok. Replaced the output sensor on the transmission and same issue. Also did the front brakes and it looks like there is an ABS sensor on the front driver side. I guess that's the next one to replace right?

Silly question:

I did my front brakes last week and noticed that the driver side has an ABS sensor, but the front passenger side does not. Shouldn't both sides have a sensor or am I missing something. How is that side routed and connected?

Both front wheels should have a sensor.

Understood.

is it possible the truck was in a wreck and someone put in the wrong wheel hub? the ABS module PN is P52009897AE

Does that help?

I've replaced the module, rear sensor, and transmission output sensor. Still getting a ABS/Brake combo. Any thoughts?
