Default Beginner questions about PCV valve

Hello friends, I am a beginner DIY mechanic and I have a 1998 Durango 5.9l. I was trying to replace the PCV valve but the grommet has turned rock hard and the PCV valve broke and won't come out. I have three questions I was hoping someone could answer:
1. What is the best way to remove this stuck grommet?
2. It seems that there are no aftermarket grommets and I will have to purchase a MOPAR 53030017. Is this correct or are there any aftermarket ones I could purchase at an Autozone or O'Reilly's?
3. The final question is, if I have to order the grommet online will my Durango be ok to drive until I can get it replaced? The hose goes right into the intake so I would probably want to atleast close that up. If i close the hose off will it be ok to drive for a week, maybe 100 miles? Thanks for any help.

1. However you can..... unfortunately, the easiest way is to have the PCV valve out first....... Gotta be careful not to drop crap into the valve cover as well, otherwise, you will need to pull it to fish that stuff out.
2. I was able to find a pcv grommet at Advance Auto parts. They have them in the "help" section. Ask the counter guy, he should be able to point you in the right direction.
3. With the engine running, is air blowing out the pcv hole? Or is it trying to suck it in? You don't want the motor pulling in dirt, or other crap thru that hole....... but, you won't want the engine building pressure in the crankcase either.

Well HeyYou is already ahead of me here. I was not able to find that grommet anywhere, even the Dorman Help products at any parts store. I did go to the dealership and order a Mopar PCV and the Mopar grommet. Mine had 260,000 miles.... yeah it was just like really hard plastic. Needed new valve cover gaskets and intake/plenum dealt with so I just made a weekend of it and replaced them all. But when I took my grommet out there was no way it was coming out short of a dozen pieces everywhere I had to break up with a screw driver. So if yours is as bad as mine was, I guess my best recommendation would be to buy a set of gaskets and pull your valve cover to replace the grommet. Might not be as bad as mine was though.
