Howdy! I've looked all over the Internet, even talked to a few mechanic friends; and I'm getting nowhere with my blend door calibration. I have an 03 SXT with a 4.7. Recently had the adventure of replacing the blower motor, evap core, and heater core. Everything seems to work correctly except that the heat controls run from blistering hot down to uncomfortably hot. The three actuators on the end of the heater box respond to the controls. With the actuators removed, both temp control doors can be moved by hand. I keep hearing about the need to calibrate the actuators; but all the procedures involve controls that are absent on my control panel. I have a rotary **** for fan speed on the left, a big blank space in the middle, a rotary **** for vent selection on the right and two temp sliders for dual zone temp control directly above and between the *****. Above the vent selector is the snowflake-A/C button and the rear defrost button. Above the fan speed control is the rear wiper/washer button. Like this:
Dual Zone heater control, 03 Durango SXT
I've tried every conceivable combination of holding buttons for five seconds while dancing naked under the full moon and whistling the Brady Bunch theme song, and all I have to show for it is a very clean rear window.
Set Blower motor ON HIGH
Set Mode position to Panel
Open all A/C outlets
Set Temperature to Cold (Both slide pots if equipped)
Depress WASH and REAR WIPER button simultaneously for 5 Seconds (Until all LED's light)
RESULTS:
All LED's will turn on for 5 Seconds
Calibration Test is running when REAR WIPER and INTERMITTENT are alternately flashing. Cooldown test is running if A/C and RECIRC are alternately flashing.
Acceptable results is REAR WIPER LED is the only LED flashing. Push Rear Wiper to exit.
Another guy disconnected his battery for 30 minutes, and things started working properly again......
Thanks for the info, but I seem to have a mutant HVAC control panel. That's what everyone, even the mechanics at the local Chrysler dealership recommend; unfortunately, my rear wiper and sprayer are the same button. It twists to control the wipers and presses to spray, plus there is no LED for it. I've tried turning on the rear wiper and holding the spray button to no effect. I have disconnected the battery several times, from about five minutes on up to nearly an hour. I even did a capacitive discharge. It's got me talking to myself now. I have a friend with a DRB III emulator. As soon as our schedules coincide, he's going to try to recalibrate them with that.
Yeah, I think you do..... Every other control I looked at was different from yours.... I can't come up with much of anything that seems to apply to the control you have. That's just bizarre...... Hopefully, the emulator will be able to do something for you.
