Use the cap designed for the vehicle, and what came from the factory. Running a lower pressure cap than stock just isn't a good idea.

I am try to ascertain what cap came stock in a 1998 Durango 5.2L with A/C. I know it's 16 lb but do not know if the vent is partial or full pressure.

spring-loaded vent valve (Full-pressure, coolant recovery system).
or
free-hanging vent valve (Partial-pressure, coolant recovery system)

see this link for full explanation: https://www.allpar.com/fix/engines/cooling-caps.html

Take a look at your old cap, see which kind you have. Buy the same kind.

I know it seems ridiculous, but maybe call the dealer. I've had some poor luck with aftermarket caps cough*Stant*cough. I will consider the dealer next time, if they still make a cap for our trucks.
