Default AWD/4Hi Switch Light Issue

Hey Everyone,

I've got a 2003 Durango R/T (5.9L) and i have a question. On my Transfer Case switch i have no light on the 4HI setting (only lights above AWD and 4LO). If I switch to 4HI, the AWD light goes out and it all works fine. . If I go to neutral and switch to 4LO, the 4 LO light goes on and it also seems to drive fine. And it switches back to AWD. I haven't driven it hard in any setting to test out, and I never see any errors or codes.

Is there a way to confirm that it is transferring over? I assume that it's just a burned out bulb on the swtich. I don't hear the case switching, but the exhaust is pretty loud.

Thanks in advance.

'Drives fine' in 4LO? Do you mean feels the same as in 4HI and AWD? You would know if it's in low range as the motor would be 2.72 times faster per MPH.

I was just going back/forth on a wet driveway. (Just to make sure it worked) I'll take it out to something loose and do a longer drive. it sounds like that would be very noticeable. Thanks!

You can easily tell HI/LO in a 20' drive. If you sense it somewhat normal at all, it's not going into 4LO. Just back it out of the drive and onto the street, then shift to 4LO and drive straight (no steering) for a Durango length. You'll know, good or bad.

Yup. that did it. I could tell the change in gearing. no bad noises and it changed over and back no issues. Looks like I just have a bad light in the switch.

Thanks!

Update: I purchased a replacement switch on Ebay and swapped it out. Lights work fine now and everything changes as expected.
