99-d 5.2 137 amp alternator. alternator starts ok, gets hot, stops charging. let cool, same thing all over again. have ordered 2 from different auto stores, both of them came in bad. geezz.

anybody rebuild their alternator, if so, where did you get the parts for it.

thanks

p.s. I have a LKQ pick-a-part used on it now from a 99, but it has to be just as old as mine.

Is it the alternator having issues, or the regulator?

do not buy from orielly's, all junk. buy NAPA first, new never remanufactured ,.If you cant get that but Autozone Duralast Gold, ( not best but better than orielly's by far), I have Napa on my Ram and jeep. Ram for 5 years, jeep 2. Autozone on Durango for almost 2 years. Make sure battery connection is good, not those cheap clamp the wire ones.

No. It is the alternator, not the reg. I have an alternator off a 99 D from the LKQ "pick a part yard", on the D now. Works, great, so it's not the regulator, which is external.. This is why I need another one or mine repaired, this alternator I have on now, has to be as old as mine, unless it was exchanged at some point in the life of that D. Had mine at a alternator rebuild shop, he told me he didn't know what to repair, since it test OK. He has no way of getting it hot as in the engine compartment, that's when after about 15 minutes, the alternator starts cutting out. Then zeros out, and stays at zero output until it cools, then it will do the same thing all over again.
