Default 2001 dodge durango

I have a 2001 dodge durango, service 4wd was on and would only go in drive or reverse when it wants to, mechanic said it was the transfer case shift motor. He replaced it and checked wiring and fuses and its still doing the same thing . He now says its the transfer case shift module, because it only goes in 4×4 when it wants . Could it be the module ? Please help, wife is mad

First thing is to get a new mechanic.

Second thing is have the new mechanic actually troubleshoot the issue properly.

Agree. Find someone who can actually troubleshoot instead of throwing parts at it.

I wish people could get a refund if the mechanic guesses wrong.

LOLOL. Wouldn't that be WONDERFUL!

There would be a lot fewer fly-by-nite shops out there if that were the case.
