Default Different stock tire size

There are 2 stock tire sizes fo 98 Durango, depending on width of rims. Tire price difference is about twice. I have second tire size, I want to replace and install first size. I have it and tow cars with it for 8 years already, maybe I'll keep it for another 8.
Any opinions about planned tire replacement?

You can mount the smaller tires on the wider rims without issue. Find a tire brand/model you like, and go for it. Keep in mind, your speedometer will be off by a bit. I *think* the major tire-sellers can correct that for you though. (at least, that would make sense to ME.......)

I thought they were same size or very close, it is not so. Metric tires are smaller and probably used on RWD models. I changed my mind, I tow cars pretty often, I shouldn't save money on tires.

I've seen the 235's on 4wd and RWD models...the 31's were a factory option...most door stickers list the 235's...Also if you were to switch I would suggest a LT (Light Truck) 235 as opposed to the P(Passenger) 235 tires.

The metric tires listed are 28.9 inches diameter, the others are...... wait for it...... 31 inches. For a 2" difference in diameter.

I think they all listed the smaller 235 tire size on the door in 98 and 99. 235s are too narrow for this size of vehicle.
