What is this called. And where can I buy one.
Hi Guys,
I have a 2001 Durango R/T. What is the plunger on the drivers side fender that closes when the hood is closed called? I have had a battery slow drain. Today I hooked up a voltmeter to the black wire that goes to it and got a voltage reading of 4.77. Tested it with the plunger in the collapsed position and still got the 4.77 volt reading. Grounded the wire and got a 0.00 volt reading. Seems to have solved the open current problem, But, I still cannot order a new one because I dont have a part no. and dont know what it is called.
Any help would be appreciated,
Bill

No. I think that plunger on the drivers side front fender under the hood might have something to do with the stock vehicle theft system because it breaks the circuit when the hood is closed, and opens it when the hood is opened. The plunger on my Durango doesnt break the circuit when the hood is closed.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi guys,
Well, I looked at some under the hood pictures of 1st gen Durangos. None of them have the plunger. I also chased the wire to the firewall and it was pulled through under a grommet. That is not how the factory runs wires. I purchased the Durango a few years ago and never had a problem with a battery drain. Seems like it is the wire that was hot going to the plunger.
Thanks for your help,
Bill
