Default 2002 Durango SXT 4.7

Hello: Recently about 3 times in the last 3 weeks when I try to start my Durango the lights come on on the instrument panel but nothing happens . I did notice it showed that the shifter was in reverse but it wasn't. I would move the shift lever back and forth a little bit then it would show it's in park and start right up. Being such an intermittent problem I am trying to figure out what is wrong. A buddy said it might be the neutral safety switch. If that is the case where is it located at ? Just seeking advice on what it could be before it could possibly strand me.Hope someone can help. O - R

Neutral safety switch will be on the trans, right below where the shift linkage hits the trans. I would have a look at the bushing in the shift linkage first. They like to dry up, get really brittle, and fall apart, leaving you slop in the shifter. So, wiggling it around some, so that the trans actually IS all the way in park, would be a good indicator.....
