Default No crank no start. Broke, and can’t afford to replace a bunch.

So, I have an 01 Durango. 4.7L 4x4. It started up last week no problem. I started driving it and right before I got on the highway, it died on me. Now, it won’t start or crank. But when I turn the key to start I hear the starter click. I know the engine isn’t locked because when I turn the key to start rapidly I can see the fan moving long with the belt. But if I hold the key on start for 5 or more seconds, I hear the starter rapidly clicking. Is it the starter or is it something else? It did the same thing hooked up to a marine battery and a jumpbox.

Get eyes on the wire connections to the starter, see if something is loose/corroded.

Try charging the battery as well, sometimes jumpboxes/jumper cables can't conduct enough juice.

Both of those are more of a guess, but free to do.

Low voltage or failing starter. Put it on a charger for a few hours, and see if that doesn't improve it's attitude at all.

Take the connectors off the battery and give them and the terminals on the batter a good cleaning with a wire brush too.
