Default Transfer case swap

Good evening..i recently had a front driveshaft ujoint break on my 03 durango and it tore the heck out of a lot of stuff under there before i could get stopped..it broke the case on the 244d transfer case, tore the wiring harness, and even ripped a hole in my floor board.. I ended up having to put a 231d manual shift case in it so i could at least get back mobile again..my problem im having is i can not get the shifter adjuster rod in the right spot to be able to use all 4 positions..it goes into 4lo 2nd and nuetral fine but when it goes into 4hi i cant get it to come back out...ive got several different thoughts but i needed some advice from someone who might have done this before..btw. I forgot to mention that the 231 case came from a 00 dakota..im wondering if its because of the different floor board pan heigths or something..any help would be appreciated

How are you testing 4 High? The 231 case doesn't have a 'full time' 4wd position. 4hi locks front and rear together, so if you are driving on hard surfaces, real possibility things just bind up, and makes it real difficult to shift out of 4Hi.

I *think* the pattern on that one is 4Lo is all the way forward, then Neutral, 2Hi, 4Hi all the way back. Probably worth checking to see if the shifter is running into anything trying to get it into 4Hi.

Was that an early 98? I know the pattern changed in trucks for the 98 model year.......

I think the pattern stayed the same in the Dakota until the switched to the electronic shift in 2001.
