Default Engine swap 5.9 gas to 5.9L diesel

I have a 1998 Dodge Durango 4X4 it was a 5.9L magnum with automatic transmission. What would I need to do to be able to swap the engine from the 5.9L gas to a 5.9L Cummins preferably a turbo and preferably something I can put a blower on (if possible) FYI I currently know nothing about diesel engines.

Not sure there is enough room under the hood for the I-6....... Likely would need some serious massaging of various body panels, and moving the radiator further forward.... and even then, I am not sure it would be enough.....

i agee, the I6 is likely too long to fit without moving both the radiator and the firewall.

however i have seen a 4bt cummins swap (3.9l iirc 4cyl diesel) done by dakota guys, that swap would be same for the durango.

You can do 4bt Cummins swap but I believe you also have to swap out the IFS for a straight axle, the Cummins is too tall to fit with the IFS cossmember in the way.

Front stock suspension could not handle a 5.9. 4BT is another story, just takes buckets of cash if your not doing all the work yourself.

In Abbotsford BC I have seen a 99 with this swap. Sadly no one around and no info card at the display. When i came back he had packed up and was leaving. Sounded real nice.

Read in forum somewhere? that the Ram frame and durango are close. Fabbing a suspnsion swap to RAM ifs will allow the weight easily. I am doing this on my 99 SLT as we speak regardless of involvement since I love my Rango eh

A Ram IFS suspension won't handle the weight of a Cummins very well, its a light duty suspension for 1/2 ton trucks.

ram frame is wider (axle shafts from ram would be too long for durango), and certainly heavier duty than the durango frame, beyond that im not sure how close they are
