Default 2000 4.7L Dodge Durango Engine power upgrades with out having to change pcm's

My durango engine has been a good one. I have 347,00 miles on it. Now its dead, I am putting a new 4.7L back in it, what are the best upgrades to do on the 4.7L to get the most power out of it with out having to change the PCM. I was going to change the stroke and all but it hit me, I would have to change the pcm. I'm looking for the most ideas to put on the 4.7L for the most power without having to change PCM. much Appreciated!

I'm not too far behind you in mileage. What finally killed it?

There aren't many upgrades for the 4.7. Maybe electric fan conversion, intake, etc. If I were you, I'd try to find an HO 4.7L however, I do believe it would need a PCM swap. You probably have a 16 tooth tone ring and you'd need a 32 tooth. There's probably more to it, so do your research.

Personally, I get a kick out of making vehicles last as long as they can. Power-wise I'm satisfied with my 4.7. Not a screamer by any means, but nice growl and decent power. I've towed cars on heavy trailers and barely felt them back there.

The oil pump went out so I had to let it sit for alittle bit until I had time to change it. I changed it out, when I cranked it up a ring went, and the back main seal went, I tried to get oil up into the cylinders so I wouldn't dry fire it but apparently I didn't get enuff up in the cylinders. When stuff started failing on it after 300,000 it has become a money pit. It had good power like you said, I could tow alot of stuff and forget I was towing it. Its been a good suv, it still has a great body on it and interior so I am going to put a 0 mile engine back in it and g o for another 300,000. I just wanted to try figure out if I can put like a cold air intake on it, maybe a chip and a tuner on it, maybe even straight pipe and cut the y out of the picture. I'm trying to get from 235 to 300 horse just bc lol.

LMK if you get there. The high output 4.7L, with all it's changes is only 30 HP and 30 ft lbs of torque greater than the standard 4.7L.

Indeed. And getting those power numbers without a custom tune really isn't likely to happen. There just ain't much out there for the 4.7.

Well i probably will use my money on a street race care. I use to race a 92 25th camero, 4.7 tune port. I put a chip in it and advanced the timing. It was a beast, but I didn't build it. It came race ready except small chip add-on. I realy want to build a 500hp engine then put the add-ons for speed. I'm looking for a page that will tell me everything I need to run the engine thru a tuner bc it probably doesn't have pcms ect. Does any one know a Mopar racing page for stuff I need to know what to use. I am no racing mechanic by no means, just a regular car mechsnic.

Default Dodge Durango 4.7L power uogrades

Try airram.com. They focus on the 4.7L (the only vendor that I have found that does so) You can email directly with the owner, Nick.

I have a 2000 Durango with the 4.7L but only about 100k miles. I have a Superchips tuner on the vehicle and also have an HO camshaft that I will be installing, I am saving for either an HO or 2008 intake manifold and a larger throttle body. That should increase horsepower by about 30 or so. More power than that will require opening up the motor and maybe a new PCM.

If you are buying a new engine, I would get a remanufactured 4.7L HO, which has some good upgrades.

I like the first gen 4.7L engine. Makes good power and torque but relatively simple and easy to work on, unlike the second gen 4.7L, which makes way more power but has a lot more complexity, particularly with the electronics.
