Default Wiring issue.

Need some help here. Just recently bought our son a 99 Durango and helped him install a new stereo. A few days later his instrument panel lights went out. I checked all of the fuses and none were blown. At the suggestion of a mechanic friend I pulled the light switch as he said that the dimmer roller can sometimes be a cause for the instrument panel not lighting up. When I got the switch out there was some stuff rattling around inside of it so I went ahead and changed it out. Now the tail lights are not working and the instrument panel lights still don't work. I again checked all fuses and found a 15A parking lamp fuse in the driver door box blown. Changed it out and still have the same issues as before. Has anyone encountered a similar problem before or know of any possible solutions?
