Default Is there supposed to be a bracket between the bellhousing and engine?

Putting the tranny back in my '02 Durango, 46re behind 5.9. There's this bracket that spans two of the top bellhousing bolts which holds what looks to be a cable going up top, though I haven't looked to see which one yet. My question is, does this bracket simply get bolted over the bellhousing under the bolt heads, or does it go between the engine and bellhousing? Don't wanna cause an alignment issue here but my memory seems to be telling me it went between the 2

Engine, then trans, then bracket.
