Default 98 Durango, SLT, 318 engine, V8 issues

Here's what I ran into, and I'm hoping someone here can help. I just bought a 98 Durango. It only has 54,000 miles on it. The previous owner replaced the oil pump amongst other things, but it still has an oil pressue/gauge problem. I think it's getting oil pressure, and after having a couple of folks look at it, they think it's getting oil pressure, too. Any ideas on why the gauge may be dropping to 0 arbitrarily? I can drive for a week and it will be up around 80 PSI, but for no apparent reason it will drop to 0 and hang around there for a few days anytime I'm under 1500 RPMs (it will jump to 30-35 when I'm over 1500 RPMs). Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

My vote is a bad oil pressure sending unit. This is located at the back of the intake, to the left of the dist. cap (when standing by the radiator, facing the windshield).

I would replace the Sending Unit and then check your gauge. My "OSU" went bad and my guage was fluctuating wildly. After replacing the OSU, my gauge worked fine. If your oil pump was in fact not working, your engine would be very noisy due to the lack of lubrication.

Thanks. That's what the people I've had look at it thought, but they suggested I check here, too.
