Hello everyone. look for some help with 1998 dodge Durango SLT 5.2. i have rear ABS only (not sure if that matters). I'm looking to change out the front brake setup. I have had the truck for the last year now and I have already gone through many sets of rotors due to large cracks from hard braking. almost slipping them in too many times. long story short is I started the changing on the front end for a 2003 Durango RT. I have knuckles, pads rotors, wheel bearing and the two-piston calipers from 2003. looks like the upper ball joint, outer tie rods and the axle will work from my 1998 on the 2003 knuckle. The problem I'm having is with the lower ball joint... The 1998 lower ball joint i believe was around 18mm wearing the hole on the 2003 was around 20mm. The Ball joint from 2003 won't fit in the 1998 knuckle. The control arm from 2003 will not fit on My 1998 frame, mounting holes are too close together for the 2003 control arm. Anyone got any suggestions??? I don't want to give up the truck. I love the thing. I put a three-inch lift, its all blacked out with a nice dark blue paint and it's in pretty good shape. Already swapped out the 15 inch wheels for a set of new stye 16inch wheels. Had them paint like a gun metal grey. The frame has no rot or rust and body needs small work.

 

The newer style lower ball joints will fit in the earlier knuckles. I have 03 knuckles and brakes on my 99 with the newer style lower balljoint in my original knuckles. Size difference is only a couple thousandths. See my thread on the upgrade: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...nt-brakes.html

I also threw an 03 rear axle with discs in too. Don't miss the drums one bit.
