Default 02 durango transmission issue.

Okay so to start off i am having an issue with the fact that my transmission will slip only in 2nd gear at about 2300 rpm and then will ahift right back into 2nd and then will shift perfectly fine until i get back down into second and will slip around 2300 rpm again.

Here is the weird thing, when it does slip it does it consistently the entire driving session. But then the next driving session it doesn't slipe at all and acts perfectly normal the entire session.

The trans does not shift hard it seems to be in good health other than for this issue. The fluid is still a good pink color doesnt smell burnt at all.

other details: My durango is at 189k miles im pretty confident the trans has had a rebuild done at somepoint based off of how smooth it shifts when its not haveing this slipping issue. I also replaced the radiator right before this started happening but not sure if that has much to do with it.

I am suspecting its a bad TCM but looking for other possiblities before i take it to a shop.

Since before i owned it but it hasn't done much driving because ive been in the process of resurrecting it from having blown head gaskets and a blown rear end lol. But if you reccomend doing that i will go ahead and have that done.

Funny enough since i made this post the trans hasn't messed up surprisingly but im sure it will go back to what it was doing soon

I'd be changing the trans fluid and filters before driving it any more of I were you. Every time you drive it and it slips you're lowering your chances of avoiding a rebuild.

Ya im in the process of servicing it. I did some research and maybe you guys know more but apparently the shift solenoids or the solenoid control unit goes bad and can cause all the issues im having. So when i do the fluid and filter change im also going to replace the solenoid control unit since its right there anyway.

its alittle pricey but its the only solution other than doing a tear down and rebuild.
