Default Overheating issue

I have an 00 Durango with a 4.7 with factory tow package, I have replaced the thermostat and all the coolant. It runs great even on 100+ degree days but as soon as I put a trailer on it. It will over heat 3/4 way up and the trailer is only 1800 pounds when empty. The only other things I can think of is replacing the radiator and before I do I wanted to see if there some input from other people that had the same issues.

Does your truck have a tow/haul button? Are you using it?? What do you put on your 1800 pound trailer?

Random things like lumber for a fence or shelves the other time and both times it got hot

The lumber probably wasn't light.... Though, still, your truck shouldn't be running that hot. Tried flushing the system??

I have, I run a lube center I did all the fluids when I got it, but it won't hurt to run a really good cleaner before flushing again, the lumber weigh in just over 2200 pounds on top of the trailer

That should still be well within your tow rating. I could see the engine running a little bit warmer, but, not a whole lot.

Check fan clutch. If you do replace the radiator, realize that the tow package (hd cooling) radiator has more capacity (two cores) vs the common parts store single core. I have a thread somewhere about it. Will find later.

Okay here is the thread. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...adiator-3.html

Long story short, you'll want to get the CSF 3516 radiator. Oh and make sure it fits your Durango as I have a 2003 Dakota.
