I have an 00 Durango with a 4.7 with factory tow package, I have replaced the thermostat and all the coolant. It runs great even on 100+ degree days but as soon as I put a trailer on it. It will over heat 3/4 way up and the trailer is only 1800 pounds when empty. The only other things I can think of is replacing the radiator and before I do I wanted to see if there some input from other people that had the same issues.

Random things like lumber for a fence or shelves the other time and both times it got hot
The lumber probably wasn't light.... Though, still, your truck shouldn't be running that hot. Tried flushing the system??
I have, I run a lube center I did all the fluids when I got it, but it won't hurt to run a really good cleaner before flushing again, the lumber weigh in just over 2200 pounds on top of the trailer
Check fan clutch. If you do replace the radiator, realize that the tow package (hd cooling) radiator has more capacity (two cores) vs the common parts store single core. I have a thread somewhere about it. Will find later.
