Default How Heads are and what to expect on 5.9L!

I have found some problems on the heads where they match up with the block. First the oil has to run back into the motor through these little holes called jackets. First oil is pumped through the filter then between the main and rod bearings and lower block. Then it's pumped to the top of the motor. Finally it is dumped onto the rockers. From there it's a free fall back down into the oil pan to be re pumped.
Now, why would a motor have free fall? Especially through these little ports called oil jackets. If you have sludge or small particles floating to the top of the motor then free falling back into the block it first has to pass through these small ports. The bad part of this is that the head gaskets don't match up perfectly and create a ledge in between the head and the block! Some of these ports become blocked and don't allow hot used oil to fall between them taking heat and used particles back to the pan and re filtered.

This illustration shows where and how small these oil jackets are and also the water jacket locations. The water jackets however don't have this problem do the size. But, it has the same problems with the ledge that the gasket makes between the head and the block. Slowly the coolant eats the gasket down in between and around these locations.

So is this what we have to look forward to? And how can we at least keep the oil jackets clean.

Well in interest of all the people here good oil change intervals and maintenance can help keep this from blowing our motors. I will say from experience that Fully Synthetic oil surpasses the regular oil, and helps keep the motor from breaking down near as fast as regular oil. This is also why a good filter with great filtering microns can help keep this problem from happening. As always if your motor does blow for some ungodly reason. Remember to have your block and heads rebuilt and not just have some other heads off another vehicle or some mix-matched block and head combo. If you get this the problem just intensifies as the combo might have smaller or bigger ports that will match up but leave a bigger ledge problem behind. I have found this problem before and do not want to deal with it again!
