Hi, I am installing a Renogy 20 amp battery to battery charger in my vehicle to finish my solar system. In order for it to come on, I need to hook it up to my D+ ignition wire coming from my alternator. I have 2 small ones and the big one that goes to the battery. All that wire does is send a signal that tells the alternator is running. The top one is white and the bottom one is green, I'm pretty sure the top white one is the correct one, but I need to know for sure.
I would expect that ANY switched circuit would do the trick. Likely a very low draw circuit as well, as it is just telling the charger that it should be charging the other batteries. I might be tempted to tap into the fuel injector power feed. It is only hot when the engine is actually running.
Would you consider the power source next to the cigarette lighter a low power source? I can put a switch between them that way I can turn it off when not needed.
