Question 2000 Durango 4.7L - 4x4...

Hi - I have 2000 Durango 4x4 with a potential steering or suspension issue.
Over the last 2 months, I've noticed a groaning noise from the left front (driver's side) when turning the steering wheel to the right. Especially when backing up (to make it go to the right).

The other day when driving home, I made a right turn on to the highway. Right after that, my Durango started having a shimmy and shake while driving. It didn't seem to be as pronounced when I slowed down....but I did make it home.

When I got home, I checked all 4 tire air pressures and they were all above 27 psi. I didn't noticed any irregularities in the tires. I jacked up the right front driver tire and tried to move it side to side. There is a slight movement at the 9 and 3 o clock position (left to right).

I think I had both left and right outer tie rod ends replaced last year by a shop but can't remember.

I'm suspecting the drivers front outer tie rod. Thoughts?

Take it to a shop for a proper inspection. All anyone on here can do is guess.

If the noise is coming from the drivers side, why are you checking the passenger side? The symptoms you describe are commonly associated with a failing wheel bearing......

Understand about the wheel bearings starting to fail. What may be a little frustrating is that I had a shop replace both wheel hubs about a year ago. Is it common for it to be failing so soon?

I have noticed that the Durango does roar a little louder than it should (compared to right after I had them replaced).

Parts quality has nose-dived in the last few years. Everything is made in china now... and their quality assurance dept doesn't exist..... at least, not in any meaningful way. A poor job of installation will also shorten their life. The axle nut has to be torqued to some truly stupid value.... and if it's not, the bearings eat themselves.
