Default I Just Changed My Brake Pads, and...

99 Durango - 50K miles

While they are quiet and nice, they don't grab as soon or as easily as they did before.

Any idea why this is? I'm a novice, so don't get too technical on me. Should I double check the brake fluid level?

Thanks.

They won't grip like they did because they are smooth, brand new pads. Usually about 250-400 miles of normal driving, you should be totally fine, unless you didn't machine the rotors at all, then it could be longer. Some hard braking to wear them in is always good.

You probably didn't "bed" them in properly. If they were not smoking after the first 5 miles it is too late to do it right now. They will still work OK but not like they should. Also there are dozens of pad compounds avail. I use ceramic with MY car. the wife gets factory OEM pads. The factory pads will provide the best compromise of longevity, performance, and noise control.
