Just boutght a Durango 91K
I just bought a 99 durango with 91K, had to replace the rear differential (9 1/4 LSD) and I was wondering what else I should look out for or plan for in expected or scheduled maintenance at this point. The waterpump was replaced at 50K (but not the timing belt). With the exception of that there hasn't been a lot of other maintenance. I know the axles or CV joints I think are prone to failure, I have the 5.9L, does it have the sludge problem the 4.7 does? Should I switch to synthetic? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Jamie

Well, you did good with the 5.9.
Tranny issues are probable at that mileage if it has not already been done.
The 4.7 is JUNK so don't worry about the oil problems.
Just do the regular maintainence and if you need help, just come back and ask.

Thanks, I'll get the transmission fluid changed and bands adjusted as soon as I get home. Is there anything wrong with switching to full synthetic at this point? I've heard the plenum gasket can leak, and I don't want to make that any easier.
Thanks a lot

After my parents bought their 98' Durango they had to replace the differential too. I have since replaced the upper & lower balljoints on both sides and both front hubs, the rest of the work done is just regular maintainence stuff.
i have never seen any proof that if you change oil it is bad ,but ever since my truck was delivered at the dealer i have always used synthetic, sorry i dont have a perfect answer
No problems are associated with changing to synthetic from regular oil.
