Default my first post HELP..........

hello all this is my first post i have a 98 durango have gone through all the sludge problems by having a buddy of mine drop the bottom of the engine out and clean the sludge and install a new oil pump well everything was fine but we did find alot of shavings in the oil pan and we could not see where they came from... well everything was great for about 6 months when all of a sudden while i was driving it the crankshaft broke so my buddy pulls it all apart and we find more shavings in the pan does anyone know where those shavings are coming from i have been doing regular oil changes with lucas but before we put the new crank back in we want to find where all the shavings are coming from i have the 4.7 engine any help would be great.... thanks

if you have the bottom out go ahaed and pull one or both heads could be intake/exhaust valves or but i would bet while you have the heads off look at the piston walls and see if you can touch any grooves in the wall thats probably where your problem is hope it helps

To pull the heads is allot of work (1 bad durango)

The 4.7 is a nightmare to pull the heads. I but the shavings came from the main bearings. You probably had one going bad and it through the dampener out of place. This can cause very bad wear on the main bearings. Were the bearing"s worn down to the brass, or the brass worn down into the crank? Also you can look up through the bottom ot the motor and see the ring wear in the cylinders. You don't have a problem with the valve's. They are in the middle of the motor not the bottom.
