Default Vibration under acceleration

Under acceleration or load I have a vibration that I can feel through the steering wheel. Let off the accelerator and it goes away. It feels like a tire out of balance but it's not the tires. Maybe u-joints in the front driveshaft or a CV joint? Any ideas appreciated. This is a 2000 Durango 5.9 AWD with 113,000 miles on it.

Seems like you are on the right track. That would be my first guess as well.

It's my wife's car and when she got home tonight I drove it again. The transfercase shifter vibrates at the same speed as you can feel through the steering wheel so I'm thinking it's in the front driveshaft. Like I said before letting off the throttle, the vibrations go away.

Sounds like a U-joint.

Check the front drive shaft.

I jacked it up yesterday and I can't find any slop anywhere in the front drivetrain. Everything is tight [sm=bangbang.gif]

Did you check the rear drive line also? If it is good and you found nothing under the front, I would start looking at brakes rotors.

I'm pretty sure it is not the rear shaft. The steering wheel vibrates and it only does this accelerating, let off the throttle and it goes away. It does this from 20 -60mph with 50mph being the worst.

If its not the tires, it has to be in the drivelinne somewhere. Universal or slip yoke.

Well it was the u-joints on the rear driveshaft[] It was transfering the vibrations through the t-case to the front end.
