Default Difference between the R/T 5.9l and SLT 5.9l

Hi guys, I'm a Ford guy at heart (don't hold that against me), but I just picked up a 2000 Durango SLT with the 5.9l engine and I love it. Prior to purchasing this SLT I test drove an R/T which is what sold me on the Durango (probably no big surprise to you guys), but because of the milage difference and condition, it made more sense to go with the SLT I bought. My question is, what are the mechanical differences between the 5.9L in the SLT Vs. the R/T? Different cam? Heads? Rockers? Intake? or just a more aggresive computer tune/exhaust package? If you have any thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate the assistance. Thanks!

Not sure i think the RT is AWD as to the SLT being a Luxury/ Sport version with an option for 4x4

The R/T has a more aggresive computer tune and AWD. Also some small things inside the cab.

So it's really just a tune/exhaust, huh? Does anyone know what the listed horse power ratings were between the two 5.9l's?

Also, how about suspension differences between the R/T and SLT? Any thoughts on that?

By the way, while I was shopping around for this truck, I ended up driving several R/T's.... not all of the ones I drove were AWD, but most of them were.

From what I know as I own a R/T. This is what is standard on a R/T that some may or may not be an option for the SLT.

R/T - Stiffer sport tune suspension

R/T - Re-Tuned computer. Extra 5 hp's and 10-15lbs torque. 2000 year model specs HP 250 / Torque 350 lbs

R/T - 17x9 inch R/T rims on 275x60x17 tires.

R/T - Offered on 2000 and later year models.

R/T - AWD is the only drivetrain offered.

R/T - 3:92 gear ratio.

R/T - Infinity sound system.

R/T - Keyless entry and security system

R/T - Overhead information console.

R/T - Two tone leather seating with R/T stitched emblems with suede leather trim on doors and other areas.

R/T - Tuned Exhaust system (Personally I don't think this feature gives you anymore power, just tuned OEM muffler for the low throaty sport sound)

If the R/T Durango did not have a AWD drivetrain, it is not a R/T. It could be someone bought the R/T emblems and badged a SLT with parttime 4WD as a R/T.

I'll have to find the auto trader listing for that R/T I test drove that did not have AWD. If that was a fake R/T I'd really like to know. I was pretty close to buying it, and I'm going to have a few words with the seller if is a fake. More to come on that.

So If I'm hearing everyone correctly, I could alter my SLT to give me similar performance characteristics to the R/T with a reasonable budget. In other words, a cold air kit, exhaust, chip or reprogramed ECU, aftermarket suspension, and a set of tires/wheels? Now obviously it still won't be an R/T with all of the other visually appealing upgrades, but it would be a nice performance oriented SUV with similar performance to the R/T, right?

to be completely honest with you, SLT has more class an has alot higher resale value than the RT, no offence to the guys that own em but nothing compairs to the SLT in performance, luxury and towing, here this is what i have on my truck

Intake

Thottle body

Cost me about 1000 bucks all the way around an right now i have about 310 HP, i'm in the process of doing an exhaustjob that will hopfully get me to 350, oh yea if you get that throttle body, stop into autozone or advance an get the aircleaner to go with it, look at my gallery for pics of my engine
