Need to replace 1998 Durango 4X4 engine
I'm a new guy on the block. I love to ride my motorcycles, hunt, and fish and have a 1998 Dodge Durango 4X4 with a locked engine. I want to swap the engine out with a 2001 5.2L Dodge Ram engine, but need to know what's involved before I delve in. Do I need to remove major components such as front differential, or transmission before I can get it out. My engine is locked up, so I cant separate the engine thrust plate from the torque converter. Looks like a tight fit, so If any of you can give some insight, I would certainly appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum first of all, second as far as changing the engine goes, the transfercase wont be in the way, all you would have to do is disconnect the drivechain for the TC, other than that all you'll need is the computer from the other truck, UNLESS you have the 318 already in your durango if so then just put the engine in, every thing will match up.. if u have the 5.9 an trying to downgrade then you're going to need the comp for the 5.2..
Hope this helps !
BTW check my durango out in my gallery an tell me what ya think!
