Default Old Dead Transmission

So, so the transmission in my daughter's 2000 Durango died, and it has the 5.9 engine so nobody has transmissions for it. Well, tonight, after lots of hunting, I found a place that has some - not just one but more than one. They charge according to how many miles are allegedly on it, and I'm wondering whether there is likely to be a lot of difference between the one with 86000 miles and the others with 104000 or 125000 or so. Anybody know if transmissions to go with that engine are scarce because they all died, or if they just didn't make many of them, or what? They are all about $1000 or more, so none are cheap, but some are more than others.

And, any suggestions about what to do with the replacement, probably replace the front shaft seal that we won't be able to get at, after it's installed, but is there anything else that is likely to go, that would be worth spending some time and money to replace before installing it?

I wouldn't buy a used transmission because chances are you'll be buying someone else's problem. I bought my D just under 30k and at 35k the tranny went out. I don't trust the trannys as far as I can throw em. Get the original rebuilt It'll be more $ but it's well worth it.

Go to Dan at thefastman.com and get a good one. Don't bother getting one you have no idea what has happend to it in it's life.
