Default durango stalling/TRANSMISSION ?

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

Well ether way you need to replace the fluid and filter. The other owner might have put the wrong fuid in it. Refer to the owners manual for the right fluid and only use that fluid and nothing else. Sounds to me you are right on the money with the torque converter not unlocking. Have you tried pressing the tow button? This makes the torque converter lock up for towing. Maybe something going on there? If I remember right, the tow button increases the electro magnet making the converter lock.

Check your trans output sensor. You might have a input sensor as well. Go to the dealer and give them your VIN# and you can see what you got under there. Also check your fuse's and relay's under the hood. You should be able exchange with one of the other ones with the same # and see if it helps.

It is well known that using the wrong trans fluid will make the trans do strange things if not take it out!

THANKS HYDRA OF COURSE THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO TELL WHAT TYPE OF FLUID IS IN THERE. I DO NOW THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS TO USE ATF 4. I ASSUME WHEN U SAY TRY THE TOW BUTTON U ARE TALKING ABOUT THE OVERDRIVE ON/OFF BUTTON ON THE SHIFT LEVER. ALSO I AM GOING TO THE DEALER AND GET THE TRANS SCANNED TO SEE IF IT IS THROWING A CODE. SERVICE REP SAYS THE TRANNY CODES DONT ALWAYS REGISTER ON THE DASH. I WILL ALSO CHECK THE RELAYS THANKS FOR THE REPLY HOPE ITS SOMTHING SIMPLE........................
