Hi all, I searched and searched and finally found a thread that relates to my question/concern. Maybe you guys can help me with my problem.

I have a 2003 Durango. I am having issues with my rear brakes. A couple of weeks back I started feeling a pulsating coming from the rear when I applied the brakes. Then they started locking up. It's not a full lock, but just a quick one. The tires chirp and chirp until it stops. This happen if I hit the pedal quickly during regular driving.
If I'm careful and start braking early, it just feels like it's dragging and it wants to lock up. I don't have an ABS light on or anything.

I took the beast in to Just Brakes and they replaced the rear shoes, drums, springs and drum cylinders. They also bled the system. Well it still did the same thing. So I paid $500 for nothing basically. Now I'm at my wits end because I am hesitant to drive it. Not to mention pissed because I paid all that. lol. Is there anything that I'm missing. Or if you can point me In the right direction. I would much appreciate your help and guidance.

Thank you in advance.

PS: the OP mentioned his fronts were locking up, but for me its the rears. Again any help would be appreciated.

I guess that explains why I have almost 200k on a set of rear shoes.

i take it you have drums on the rear then based on your post and not disc brakes??

it sounds to me like the rear drums are adjusted too tight, try taking the rear drums off and if you cant get them off by hand (since yous aid they were just replaced they shouldnt be rusted on) then i would look into loosening the star adjusters a click or two

and please post a picture of the rear drums on your 2003 durango in this thread i fyou get a chance

See, I adjusted the star wheel, but it goes back to the setting it previously was. IIRC aren't those self-adjusting? Also, yes, drums and had no problem at all removing them. I've got a pic, but I'll have to wait until I get home to post. I am under the assumption that it can be a proportioning valve. I don't know, at this point I'll take anything.

Could very well be the rubber lines to the wheel cylinders.

I got under the beast and check all the rubber lines. They are all good. No kinks, rips or tears. Anyone? I would lo e to have my baby working 100% this weekend.

It sounds to me like an out of round drum but you say you had them replaced. I would try unplugging the ABS module and drive around and see if it goes away, not very likely but could be the module going bad.

the drums are self adjusting, but they adjusters require a rocking motion to properly adjust (meaning if you dont back up often enough they wont stay adjusted properly)

This is alot of good information. I will be doing this, this weekend. I've been having the same problem for a little while now. Love the V10 but Damn its heavy as hell to stop. Also I am looking for a fan shroud. Ive checked all the local dealers and no one seems to have a v10 in stock. Is the v8 and the v10 compatible with each other. I broke the fan shroud replacing the water pump. (Stepped on it). Any help would be great. Thanks.

I would assume they are the same size, but the radiator would be a larger core. It should be the same on the 5.2L and 5.9L engines (the shroud) but don't quote me on that. The V10 is only a 5.9L with 2 extra cylinders on it.

Anyway this is the Durango section and they do not come with a V10, you can always PM me or go to the 2nd generation Ram section.
