Default keyless entry

I just bought a 2001 durango. The remotes didn't work so I changed the batteries and even took it in to have remotes tested to see if they are transmitting. The remotes transmit and the dodge dealer tried to reprogram, but it wouldn't read it. Just wondering if there is any way the system could have been turned off or disconnected...not sure where to look to find it. I found out that it had been a rent a car early on and maybe it could have been turned off then?! If I can't find the problem I will have to pay $50 just to have it diagnosed next week. Any help would be great! Thanks

Congrads on your new Durango.

First thing I would do is have the Dealership run a VIS on your vin#. They can see all the history of warranty repairs, and see the option list and code to your particular vehicle, and see if it even came with keyless entry. Hope this can help.

Thanks for your help! The dealer did look at the list and it did have keyless entry as an original option. I'll let ya'll know what it is when it gets diagnosed Monday.
