Durango 2001 Chain Like Noise
When I drove just a little way tonight, it sounded like my D was dragging something. I stopped and got out and checked underneath in the dirt and did not see anything. I continued on and no other noise. After I ran my errand and started up again, it sounded so loud like it was dragging a cart! It's coming from the front underneath by the left tire - there was some dried rubber type material falling out. I was a jet engine mech, not a truck mech, so I am not sure what this is. I drove it a bit more and it made the chain like noise for about 5 seconds and then ran normally. I was going to drive about 250 miles tomorrow, but now it sounds like I am screwed. Any ideas what this is?
Maybe your belt is falling apart? I wouldn't be able to tell you unless you could describe the area better or maybe if you have a camera and can take some pics... I wouldn't drive it like that though. Find another way or something.
The only way I can describe what I saw is that there was a rod that went across and then like a Y that was attached to the rod that went further up - like a stabilizer to the rod. The Y had this dried up rubber like material falling off. The only thing is, I don't know if that was causing the dragging chain sound. But I guess if it was metal to metal, it could.
The rubber might be one of your bushings... It may not even be your problem Hydra is propably on the right path check out your rear diff if you haven't kept up with that it's quite possible that could be what's making the noise.
