Default I'm looking at getting a Trans Shift Kit.

I have a 03 Durango with a 5-45RFE trans. I'm looking at a 5-45RFE Heavy-Duty TRANSGO Shift Kit. It says it "Corrects soft 1-2 shift, heavy throttle long 2-3 shift and firmer 4th gear shift. Designed for the professional mechanic". Has any of you guys tried the Transgo Shift Kit? I'm also wondering if it is really that complex, like needing special tools and things to install it, sense it says for professional mechanic. Thanks in advance. Digitoxin.

Sorry I ran out of time yesterday to answer your question. I had a Transgo shift kit. In my older trans I put just the kit in and it was good. In my new trans I had custom built I went a better rout, it is better to go with a custom valve body that has a custom kit and valve body work also. Better performance and gas milage. Call Dan at www.thefastman.com and order a replacement valve body with the kit already installed with custom valve body. I didn't have him do mine but it is the same thing. You install the valve body and send yours back to him for the core charge. I had him price out a body for me and it was only $300 bucks (46-RE). And it is also installed correctly. You have to be careful when installing these type of things with a auto trans. They are very delicate.

PM me and I can help you more with this issue.

Thanks hydrashocker, That way would be actually easier too. I'll talk to Dan. I know the torque specs are critical on those valve bodies. I'll take care when installing. Let you know how it goes when I get it done.

It is much easier and also better. It takes all the guess work out of it. Not to mention a lot better!

Hi,

Don't know how you made out with your decision but for anyone else considering the amount of work and their own capabilities check out the following link for a brief pictorial "cruise" through a shift kit install:

Good Luck!
