Default Productive day

Well guys I had a nice productive day today I changed my serpentine belt, upgraded to a 180 degree t-stat, and flushed out my cooling system. I am glad I got to my cooling system this weekend since I haven't really gotten into it since I bought the D back in Oct. I disconnected my overflow tank hose from the filler neck and tried to get it to drain and the thing was plugged so bad that I couldn't even blow it out. I ended up taking my garden hose and put it on the stream seeting hooked up and went at it. I had to do that 5 times before I got everything out of my overflow tank but all is good now with that. It looks like I do need a new fan clutch though I was taking a good look at my fan and the thing was moving sooooo slow and I was hitting 210 at red lights. I am thinking I might want to do the viper fan upgrade instead though instead so I can save some gas and horsies. Does anyone know if I can do the viper fan upgrade on this thing since I have the big plastic overflow/washer fluid reservoir/shroud going on. Diff's next week YAY I can hardly wait... I also was being dee de deeeeeee (Carlos Mencia) and when I went to put the lower hose back on I dumped a bunch of water all over my face. For some reason I wasn't thinking there would be much in the hose after the rinsing I gave it LOL.

I got my fan clutch replaced. Get ready to pay and arm and a leg for it. I nearly paid $100 for that beast. It's the most severe duty model. Now it never goes past the 200 degree in 100 degree heat. now the heatwave is over, it never goes past the 195 mark. But now I have to get used to the fan roar and hopefully hope the fresh grease will wear in soon so the fan clutch will release the fan much earlier instead of later. SAve some mpg and horses too.

100 clams is not that bad really I have paid more than that for other things LOL. I don't really want to do that unless the viper fan upgrade is not doable or is just not cost effective. I could do everything with it as far as mounting but when it comes to wiring I'd rather leave that to the pro's. I hate electrical...

I assume you are referring the Viper kit as electrical fan instead of mechanical as you mentioned you hate doing electrical work? If so, I may be interested in it as well. I just cannot stand the fan roaring all the time for the first 20-30 minutes before it goes away and I am sure it is robbing me of my mpg and hp as well. As I already have a large electric fan in the back location of the radiator, I have been searching around for 2 small high performance pancake fans to mount on the front of my A/C. So I can have both a push/pull airflow.

Yeah it's an electric fan that actually sits in the same place as the mechanical fan it gives you back I think 10-15 hp or something like that I don't know . I will look it up and pm it to you.

If it sits in the same place as the mechanical fan, that will not work for me unless I have to sacrifice my OEM electric fan. It's a big fan. Big enough to barely encompass the whole radiator. When my fan clutch went out, the electric fan was the only thing keeping my D from seriously overheating. It heated up to 220 during those 100+ degree days of heat. The electric fan was working overtime. I like to look for some thin pancake style fans to put in front of the radiator or my A/C condenser coil to assist the OEM electric fan. Then hopefully I can lose the mechanical fan all together.

The thing I saying though is that you still have the other electric fan but you also have the viper fan. IDK it may or may not work on our D's since we have this huge overflow tank in there...
