I have searched through this forum, and the archives, and I don't believe my issue it the battery. I say this because I just replaced it 8 months ago with a 1000 cold cranking amp everstart.

This issue started happening about a month ago. I was driving home, through some heavy rain, and when I disengaged the cruise, the car lost power, and started stalling. I could restart it, but had to keep my foot on the gas, and had almost more power. Luckily, I was only 1 mile from home.

I changed the spark plugs last night with nice copper ones. Long over due, @ 98k miles.

It happened again this morning as I was pulling a trailer, through some thick fog, after 20 minutes of highway driving, I took an onramp to a 2nd highway, and the damned thing stalled again. It wouldn't restart. I finally got it started again, with 0 power and my foot on the gas, long enough to creep another 3 miles, when it died. I waited 20 minutes, and it started, rough, i floored it, and they it started behaving normal again. I drove it for another 30 miles.

Did you replace the cap, rotor, and wires? That could be your problem. The humiditiy in the air may be allowing the wires to arc if they are 98k miles old. A good way to check this is to take a spray bottle and mist the water over the wires and look for arcing at night or in a dark garage. Another thing to check is your injectors, they might be plugged up. I have heard very good things about a product called sea foam it will clear all that crud out of your system do a search on this site and you can get an idea of how to use it. Good luck with your problem and let us know how it works out.

 

I am pretty sure the 2001 4.7L is a distributorless system. Each spark plug has its own coil. I will give that sea foam a shot. Thx.

 

Got ya I don't know about the 4.7's so I couldn't tell ya.

 

The 4.7L has overhead coils on each of the plugs. It kinda sounds like:

1. Fuel pump, Check pressure should be about 55 PSI on the rail.
2. Air filter.
3. Clean Throttle Body
4. Throttle Position Sensor
5. Clean Throttle Body
6. Crankshaft sensor (seen plenty of weather related problems due to humidity)
7. Mass Airflow Sensor
8. Plugged Catalatic Converter
9. Possible PMC (hope not)
