Default ram air or cold air intake

in the future, I plan on buying a keystone good hood for my 5.2 D , but I was curios if a cold air intake would perfom better than the hood and kit.[sm=smiley15.gif]

why not cold ram air? run both. I would thing a CAI would suck more are than the factory box with ram air. the hood your try'n to get is functional right over the location where your CAI filter would be

functional ram air as in a kit that goes with the hood and basiclly seals the filter to the top of the holes on the hood. then i wont even have a factory box at all.[sm=smiley15.gif]

since you want to buy a functional hood anyway you might as well get the kit also. colder air is always better

as of right know I plan on getting the kit, I was just curious if a CAI would provide more air since the hood I want has very small holes in it, and a CAI seems a good deal bigger.[sm=smiley15.gif]

that's why I was say'n I'd run both. the functional hood will route cooler air to the cai. My filter is 9" and sucks air 360 degrees. unless you run a stage III from intense performance. it's all down to choice.

How much horsepower do you think a cold air intake is going to add? My guess is maybe 5-10 hp maximum and that translates to maybe 2-5 at the rear wheels which you won't even notice. Your rear wheel horsepower can fluctuate by more than 10% with the weather conditions and you probably never noticed it. I don't think a ram air is going to do much of anything unltill you get it up around 60MPH and even then you have to work around the mass airflow sensor. I love to tinker and I build race motors so don't get me wrong, I am not trying to discourage anyone. I have tried the cold air intake on several vehicles and the only noticable change I got was a loud intake suction which I could live with, but I saw no jump in RPMs or even better fuel economy. I have seen some cold air intakes that would make me afraid to drive thru a puddle for fear of sucking water. I am not bashing anyone but I would recomend saving your $$ on these "upgrades", there is only so much you can do to a stock computer controlled motor.

the ram air is just the first of hopefully many performance upgrades to come. I plan on following the air in air out concept of vehicle upgrades. I am getting the hood for sure my question was what is going to be better in the long run to put the ram air kit in or to buy a CAI.[sm=smiley15.gif]

If you have your heart set on buying something I would choose the ram air. It will not help 0-60 times and could possibly add a few mph to your top speed. What do you do with it when it rains?

most ram air hoods have a system built in to collect and drain the water before it gets to the intake
