I just purchased a 2003 sxt durango 4.7 4X4 with hitch ..44,000 miles...When I first start the truck it very loud niose coming from the front....Has I accelarate its loud but once on the highway it quits down....Could it be a bad clutch fan? and someonesaid I might have the heavy duty cltch fan(which i read robs about 20 horse) any truth to that. the truck run cool and Fine. Thanks.

 

my clutch fan does that in the morning for about a minute then it's fine

It's perfectly normal. If you want you can upgrade to an electric fan in place of your stock mechanical fan...

 

The 03 has electric fan and clutch fan. You may have a aftermarket fan clutch. The stock OMC clutch quiets down much faster.

 

Yeah I think all the 1st gens had 2 fans one electric one mechanical, I'm talking about upgrading to a 2nd electric fan in place of the mechanical fan. Frees up power and saves a little gas.

 

If anyone has already done this, post some pics! I am ready to ditch my aftermarket clutch fan. The noise is just too irritating! Drowns out my music inside! I assume you will have to buy a fan kit for the front for those of us that already has a OEM fan that is mounted in the back of the radiator.
