Default 2002 Durango Questions

I've got a 2002 Durango SLT 4.7 that I've owned for a little over two years now and have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.

First off, I need to get new tires as my stock Goodyear Wranglers need to be replaced. What's the largest tire I could get without getting into any rubbing issues? P265's are what is on it now.
Second...My owners manual tells me that I should have a 25 gal. tank, but I have never been able to put more than 20 gallons into it, and I've had it down into the red before with the fuel needed light on. Any idea what is going on here?
Lastly and most importantly...Last year I had the MAP sensor replaced after my engine kept cutting out on me in busy Chicago traffic. I noticed a couple of months after getting it replaced that the idle is a lot lower. When I'm stopped, it idles at around 500 RPM's and isn't very smooth. Shouldn't it be around 650-700 RPM's at idle? Is it a matter of updating the computer or are there bigger issues going on? I'm planning on getting a full tune-up in a couple of weeks, but don't know if that will alleviate the issue.

Thanks for the help!

Josh

First off welcome to the forum.

Now for your problems.

1. Your truck didn't come with 265's on it. In fact I beleive it should have came with 235-75-LT15's or 31X10.5 LT15's. Take a look under the truck and look at the spair tire. It is probly a 31X10.5 15. Remember that if you have a different spare tire you need to get the correct one. I like the 31X10.5 15LT. You should have no problem with these. Also it is very important to give us the year and motor of your rig to get the right answers. We just shot in the dark.

2. There are two different gas tanks Dodge put in these trucks. Make sure you got your info right and looking in the right spot. Your fuel float might be hung up on something.

3. Idle Possioning Sensor is your problem. Replace it and also check the pentium gasket on the bottom of the manifold by looking down the Throttle Body into the belley of the intake manifold with a flash light and look for puddled oil in the bottom.

Get that tune up done anyway you are over due.

FYI- Get the stock (OEM) spark plug replacements only!

Thanks for the quick reply! My Durango is a 2002 SLT with the 4.7L, with 72k trouble-free miles. I can't check my spare for the tire size since it got stolen a couple of years ago...Right now there are P26570R16 Goodyear Wrangler RT's on it. I'll most likely stick with the 31x10.50's but was just curious what my options were. When I have the tune-up done, I'll have the shop see if anything weird is going on with the fuel float. I'll have the Idle Possioning Sensor looked into as well. Thanks for all the help!

No problem dude. Stick with the 31 10.5 15LT's. You will be happy. Also make sure that you change the oil every 3000 miles on the 4.7L and don't miss them. Even Full Synthetics.

Hydra,

265/70/16 were OEM tires for the 2002 year model as he stated he had 16 inch rims. I have two buddies with a 2001 and 2002 SLT and they have the OEM 265/70/16 tires on OEM 16 inch rims. These tires were common on the 2WD SLT durangos. My buddy with the 2002 SLT 2WD was able to go from 265 to 275 without rubbing. Otherwise, you may have to drop down from 60's to 55's to get a wider footprint.

Everyone has their down day! haha, I know I do more than once!

He'll have to go to a new set of rims to go with those 31's. I don't think they make 31's in 16 inch size?

See there I go again.[sm=ummmmokay.gif]

The 16" rim tire is bigger than the 15". But I think it will still fit no problems.
